Federal Territories PAS today lodged a police report against the organisers of the Aiyoh Wat Lah! Awards, describing the awards as "uncivilised".

"This police report is a lesson to others so that they don't repeat the same thing, a rude and uncivilised action in order to get cheap publicity," said Federal Territories PAS deputy commissioner Kamaruzaman Mohamad, at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters today.

He added that it was wrong to say this was condoning abuse, as Islam teaches that respect for one other is a basic tenet in the household.

This is after Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria bagged a prize in the 'Insulting Intelligence' category for arguing that Prophet Muhammad said women cannot refuse her husband's sexual urges, even if she is on the back of a camel.

The event, now in its fifth year, was organised by the NGOs of the Joint Action Group on Gender Equality (JAG).

Harussani also beat Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak who received two nominations in the same category.

"The organiser has made insolent remarks against the mufti who had expressed his opinion based on an accurate understanding of the religion," said Kamaruzaman.

The annual Aiyoh Wat Lah! Awards comprise six awards, highlighting sexist, misogynistic, homophobic, and transphobic comments or actions by public figures or institutions that were made in 2015.

The awards ceremony was held in Petaling Jaya on Aug 28, in which none of the winners showed up.
