IGP: Notice from reds received, none from Bersih

Police received a notice from the red-shirts group three days ago to hold a gathering at Dataran Merdeka this Nov 5.

Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar said they would be calling the organisers of the gathering to discuss the action and aim of the mass gathering.

He said police had no objection to any party wanting to hold a rally provided they followed the law under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

"If you want to hold a rally, do so as the Peaceful Assembly Act allows people to gather or protest but it must be in accordance with the law."

He said this at a press conference after officiating at the graduation ceremony for participants of the 'Service Excellence Delivery In Action' course, at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters, yesterday.

Meanwhile, Khalid said police had not received any notice from the organisers of Bersih 5 to hold a rally on Nov 19.

He said action would be taken against rally organisers which failed to give prior notice to police.
