After firebomb, FAP head believes some fans out to 'create chaos'
Football Association of Penang (FAP) president Zairil Khir Johari believed that some football fans could have been instigated to "create chaos".
This follows the hurling of molotov cocktails at FAP's office on Tuesday night.
"Based on our information, I believe that certain sections of the fans have been instigated in order to create chaos," said Zairil.
"There may be ulterior motives at play, but for now we are cooperating with the police."
Asked if there were political motives involved as some fans have protested against Zairil's appointment as FAP head, he declined to elaborate.
"I can't say, but certainly there are motives beyond football," said Zairil.
This morning, FAP staff members found burn marks and broken glass outside the building.
Penang North-east District Police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said police found evidence that a petrol bomb was involved.
Heightened security
He said there were not witnesses during the incident, as there was no CCTV or security guards present at the premises.
"This is the first time such an incident has happened, and those who lodged the complaint have no idea who had done this,
"We will record statements from all the FAP staff to obtain further information and motives for the incident," he added.
The case is being probed under Section 435 of the Penal Code in relations to mischief using fire or explosives.
On plans to prevent further violence, Zairil said there will be "heightened security" during football matches and FAP meetings.
"There will be extra personnel and extra police as well. The police have been very helpful.
"We thank them for providing security during our meetings, and during our matches. We can see the police are also concerned," he added.
