Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz hopes that the Film Censorship Board (LPF) would not ban the upcoming 'Power Rangers' movie or censor a scene from the film which allegedly depicts LGBT elements.

This follows rumours that the body may ban the film based on the popular television series as it depicts a possibly gay character.

"I am really depressed to what's happening to our censorship board," he said during a press conference at Parliament House today.

He advised the LPF to classify the movie as PG13 instead of censoring or banning the film.

A PG13 rating would require that a parent be present to allow for those under the age of 13 to watch the movie.

"It is up to me to decide if I bring my child to watch the movie, who can be better to decide for the children if not the father and the mother ?

"Who is the Censorship Board to make a blanket statement that it is not good for the children ? We have never appointed the board to be our guide or moral guardian, the parents can decide for themselves," he asked.

"The standard of the Censorship Board should not be used as the standard for Malaysia, we need to do something about it," he said, adding no adult will turn themselves into a gay or lesbian after watching these movies.

Nazri, who slammed LPF for its earlier ban on 'Beauty and The Beast', said he watched the purported LGBT scene, which depicts a man enticing another guy.

"If nobody told me of the (purported) LGBT element, I won't know about it. I was only seeing a fat man dancing and I don't even know the red sign at his belly was in fact a love bite. Probably he was just enticing a sleeping man," he said.

He said he would laugh at such a scene as he would at a standup comedy show.

News portal Malaysia Outlook reported that TGV had halted its advance ticket sales for the upcoming movie 'Power Rangers' which was slated to open this Thursday.

'Power Rangers' director Dean Israelite was reported as saying that the character of the Yellow Ranger will question her sexuality in the film.

Meanwhile, Nazri also applauded LPF for making a U-turn by allowing 'Beauty and The Beast' to be screened without cuts as it shows that the body listens to the people.
