Tasek Gelugor MP Shabudin Yahaya is a "monster" for suggesting that victims marry their rapists, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said today.

He said Shabudin’s suggestion was totally unacceptable and urged BN to expel the lawmaker.

“He is a monster for making such a statement. Do you want the girl to suffer every day, and experience trauma, with her rapist?

"We condemn this monster of an MP, and demand that BN expels him. He should be asked to resign as MP,” Lim said at a press conference today.

“So, if every rape victim marries her rapist, are you not encouraging or sanctioning rape? If that is the formula, what if the girl is the subject of gang rape? She has to marry all of them? What a depraved and sick mind,” Lim exclaimed.

Shabudin created a storm when he told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that marriage between a rape victim and the rapist was a possible remedy for social problems.

He said such a marriage may even lead to the rapist repenting and it would be good for the victim to have a husband.

Shabudin shocked the nation when he also declared that 12-year-old girls are not too young to be wed.

He said girls who reached puberty as young as nine years old were physically and spiritually ready for marriage.

Even his colleague in BN, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan, expressed shock that Shabudin could utter such a remark.

'What kind of dad, brother is Shabudin?'

Lim said if the BN has any moral honour, Shabudin should be expelled.

He questioned the MP on what kind of father or human he is, and if he had any daughters or sisters.

Lim said it was easy for Shabudin to talk as it is not his daughter or sister who has been raped.

“Penang does not want a monster to be MP, we are ashamed to have an MP like Shabudin. Even though he is not from Pakatan (Harapan), but he is an MP in Penang, and we ask that he be sacked."

Lim said the state executive council has decided to condemn Shabudin as he is an MP from the state.

“The exco expresses grave concern, outrage and contempt over Shabudin’s inhumane and disrespectful remark against women. He is completely unfit to be an MP,” he added.

During a press conference in Komtar, state executive councillor Chong Eng said Shabudin is "unfit to represent the people".

As an MP, Shabudin should uphold rights of the people, men or women, boys or girls, Chong Eng added.

"But he is doing the opposite, he is promoting a very dangerous thinking.

"We have seen wives killed because they asked for a divorce and girlfriends injured with violence, because they wanted separation from their partners," said the DAP Wanita chief.

Chong Eng has called on all MPs to state their stand on Shabudin’s views, urging them to promote good values where men should not take advantage of women.

"If a rapist can marry a nine or 12 year-old girl, whether he is the husband or father, he is only thinking of sexual intercourse, but what about the girl's future?" she asked.

"Will she continue her studies or education? Is she able to perform her other duties as wife? The answer is no, as she is still a child." she added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister I Rashid Hasnon said Shabudin’s remarks were out of line with Islamic principles.

He said despite being a former Syariah court judge, Shabudin had suggested that underaged girls marry their rapists.

“This not only undermines the underaged girl but her entire family, for the rest of her life," said the PKR Pantai Jerejak assemblyman.

“We urge Shabudin to be relieved from his duties as an MP.”
