Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will lead Pakatan Harapan in four states, including key battlegrounds such as Johor, Perak and Kedah.

According to the list of Harapan state chairpersons distributed today, Bersatu chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin has been appointed Johor Harapan leader.

The opposition managed to make inroads in Johor during the last general election and is still touted by opposition leaders as an important front.

Bersatu deputy chairperson Mukhriz Mahathir will lead Harapan in Kedah, a state where he once served as a short-lived menteri besar before being ousted by those close to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Perak Bersatu leader Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Perlis Bersatu leader Ameir Hassan will be leading Harapan in their respective states.

The federal opposition captured Perak in the 2008 general election but was two state seats short of forming the state government in the 2013 general election.

Perlis is solidly behind BN, which currently controls 13 out of the 15 state seats.

The 4-4-3-3 formula

Like Bersatu, PKR will also be heading Harapan in four states.

The PKR leaders who would lead Harapan in the four states are Mohamed Azmin Ali (Selangor), Fauzi Rahman (Pahang), Aminuddin Harun (Negeri Sembilan) and Christina Liew (Sabah).

DAP and Amanah will lead Harapan in three states respectively.

The DAP leaders who would lead Harapan in the three states are Lim Guan Eng (Penang), Chong Chien Jien (Sarawak) and Tan Kok Wai (Federal Territory).

The Amanah leaders who would lead Harapan in the three states are Husam Musa (Kelantan), Raja Kamarul Bahrin (Terengganu) and Adli Zahari (Malacca).

The announcement of the appointments was endorsed by Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as well as deputy presidents Muhyiddin, Guan Eng and Mohamad Sabu.
