One of PKR's main proponents for talks with PAS, Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, says he accepts Pakatan Harapan's decision not to pursue further negotiations with the Islamist party.

However, despite saying the decision would be carried out, the PKR deputy president has indicated that he won't cease "talks" completely and that he can "talk" to anyone.

"We accept and will execute the decision.

"Our focus now is to strengthen our machinery to face the 14th general election and prepare for the possibility of three-cornered fights, as decided by the Harapan council," Azmin is quoted as saying by the New Straits Times today.

Azmin was speaking to reporters last night after attending the Selangor Merdeka Eve celebrations in Shah Alam.

Following rifts in PKR over whether or not the party should still negotiate with PAS, the Harapan leadership council late on Monday ruled that the coalition and its members would not cooperate with PAS in the next election, and would focus on preparing for three-cornered fights.

Azmin was notably absent from the Harapan meeting, but when asked about this, simply said he had other matters to attend to.

Pressed on whether he would continue talking to PAS regardless of the Harapan leadership's edict, the PKR number two gave a cheeky answer.

"I can talk to anyone. Last night (Tuesday) I spoke to Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The day before I spoke to the prime minister (Najib Abdul Razak)," he was quoted saying by Free Malaysia Today. 

The spat within PKR over the PAS talks had been the centre of attention for several days following Selayang MP William Leong's decision to quit the party's political bureau to in protest against the talks.

The infighting has seen both camps in heated arguments in public, and even an upheaval in Kelantan PKR's Youth line-up.
