Two more defendants were included in the Bar Council election forgery case making it a total of eight defendants to date.

The two are Hendon Mohamed and Cecil Rajendra who were candidates in the Bar Council election.

The reasons for their inclusion, according to Cyrus Dass ( left ) who represented the two, were because the duo are distinguished members of the bar and that they were among the candidates who had participated in the election.

The other six defendants in the case are Bar Council, Dr Yaacob Hussain Merican, S Radhakrishnan, Inderjit Singh, Robert V Lobo and Rafie Mohd Shafie.

Yaacob, Radhakrishnan and Inderjit were scrutineer at the election while Lobo and Rafie were candidates.

Justice Wan Afrah Wan Ibrahim allowed the inclusion of the two new defendants after hearing arguments from Dass in the Kuala Lumpur High Court this morning.

Scrutineer's report

Dass said the two new defendants were directly affected by the scrutineer's report which was submitted to the Bar Council on Dec 1.

They were however not named in the report.

The lawyer also pointed out that many outstanding issues had emerged in the case and it has gone beyond just the involvement of the Bar Council.

Dass said that it is not the matter of whether to continue the counting process or not but it is a concern of how the members (defendants) were affected in the case..

As the respective lawyers representing the defendants had not submitted their affidavit to the court yet, Wan Afrah ruled that the hearing will only continue after all have submitted them.

The next hearing will be held at Kuala Lumpur High Court on Jan 10 next year.
