Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today said that the new director-general of the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) will be announced as soon as possible.

According to Bernama , he said the ACA deputy director-general would be acting ACA chief for the time being.

The agency has two deputy directors-general - Ahmad Said Hamdan is deputy director-general I while Zakaria Jaffar is deputy director-general II.

Abdullah was queried on who would become the new director-general following the government's decision not to renew the contract of Zulkipli Mat Noor which expired on March 31.

Police probe

On police investigation into allegations of corruption and abuse of power levelled against Zulkipli, Abdullah said: "Investigation papers are not to be revealed."

The police have set up a special team of 10 officers from Bukit Aman and the Kuala Lumpur police contingent to conduct the probe.

It has so far recorded statements from 21 witnesses.

The allegations against Zulkipli was made by former ACA Sabah director Mohamad Ramli Abdul Manan.

The allegations were contained in a report penned by Ramli prior to his retirement last December.

Zulkipli, a former high ranking police officer, was appointed to head the ACA in 2001. He has since denied the allegations.
