The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) has recorded statements from Chief Justice Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim and Tourism Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in connection with the scandalous 'Lingam tape'.
According to
Bernama
, ACA director-general Ahmad Said Hamdan yesterday said the agency had also recorded statements before Hari Raya from eight other individuals to assist in its probe.
"All the 10 had given good cooperation in this matter. Now the ACA only needs the original 14-minute unedited version of the video clip to facilitate the investigation," he was quoted as saying.
Ahmad Said also said any individual - including PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim - who has an original copy should deliver the video clip to the ACA.
The agency had been expected to visit Anwar's office in Petaling Jaya today, but cancelled the plan at the eleventh hour.
Anwar was given an ultimatum to hand over the original copy of the video clip, failing which he could be charged under Section 22 of the ACA Act. It carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term not exceeding two years, or both, upon conviction.
The eight minute video - as revealed by PKR on Sept 19 - showed senior lawyer Lingam purportedly brokering judicial appointments with Ahmad Fairuz in 2002.
At that time, Ahmad Fairuz was Chief Judge of Malaya. Tengku Adnan, who was also mentioned, was Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of legal affairs.
Ahmad Fairuz had faxed a 'no comment' reply to Malaysiakini but was later reported to have purportedly issued a denial of involvement through de facto law minister Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz.
Tengku Adnan has
denied
that he was a 'judicial fixer' but has not committed to date to assist a government-established panel of inquiry that is probing the authenticity of the video clip.
It was also reported that Lingam was quizzed by the ACA when he returned from a trip abroad three weeks ago.
