One of the most horrific but least well-known incidents of the conflict in Sri Lanka involved the butchering and ethnic cleansing of Muslims in the summer of 1990. The violence started in the east in July, when more than 60 people, most returning from Haj, were reportedly killed by the LTTE at Kurukal Madam.
