Newly opened Columbia Asia Hospital - Bukit Jalil held a fun run and family carnival for the Bukit Jalil community, on 10th December 2023. This was their first event since the hospital started operations two months ago. The event, SIHAT! is a community engagement activity that brought 400 participants from around Bukit Jalil and surrounding areas including Seri Kembangan, Serdang, OUG, Taman Desa, Sri Petaling and Sungei Besi.

“The event name, SIHAT! serves as a reminder of how important it is to take good care of one’s health,” said Columbia Asia Hospital – Bukit Jalil General Manager, Dr. Sharonpal Singh. “As a new member of this neighborhood, we felt it would be proper to introduce ourselves up close and personal in a way that not only relates to a healthy lifestyle but also something that would bring the community together.”

According to Dr Sharonpal, SIHAT! reinforces the hospital’s dedication to connect with the community through initiatives that bring joy and create memorable experiences for all involved.

Fun run on a Sunday morning

Opening the event was an energetic Zumba warm-up session led by Zin Jacinda Webb. Runners all dressed in turquoise SIHAT! Tshirts were in sync with every energetic Zumba beat. Dr Sharonpal then took the stage and delivered his speech to address members of the audience.

Participants were all hyped up and raring to go just as Dr Sharonpal sounded the air horn with Columbia Asia Regional General Manager, Puan Engku Marina Engku Hatim flagging off the run.

The SIHAT! route was a choice of either 3km or 5km, depending on participants’ preference.  Many of them passed through Bukit Jalil landmarks such as the recreational park, national stadium, golf club and a few residential areas.

Remarkably, the run successfully raised RM16,000 in proceeds which will be distributed to three NGOs within the Bukit Jalil area. “We look forward to doing more in the future for the community through our events such as children’s events, health workshops and health talks,” added Dr Sharonpal.

Carnival activities for families

As runners made their way towards the Finish line, the carnival had started in full swing featuring outdoor games and indoor activities. The main attraction was the Young Doctor Challenge which introduced children to practical self-care tips and enhance their communication skills regarding health concerns through hands-on activities and role-playing. Columbia Kids Club mascot, Zoey the Parrot, made a special apperance much to the delight of both children and adults! There were also complimentary health screenings, a safety and emergency workshop, first aid demonstration, ambulance tour, balloon giveaways and food trucks.

Event partners comprised Munchy’s crackers, Vitagen by Marigold, Wise Crafters health food, Wondrous Kombucha and Oriplus gelato and fresh juices.
