The Selangor Smart City & Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) 2025 turned the spotlight on Artificial Intelligence (AI) today as global innovators, startups, and policymakers gathered at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur for the AI Innovation Conference 2025

Organised by the Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), the session was officiated by YB Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Deputy Minister of Digital, and attended by YB Ng Sze Han, Selangor State EXCO for Investment, Trade and Mobility, alongside Yong Kai Ping, Chief Executive Officer of Sidec. The conference forms part of the four-day SDEC 2025 held from 8–11 October at KLCC and Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, themed “AI × Semiconductor: Blitzscaling Malaysia’s Deep Tech.”

The conference underscored Malaysia’s readiness to lead in AI-driven innovation, bringing together industry pioneers to explore how AI is reshaping business, government, and society.

The opening ceremony featured keynotes by global innovation leaders, including Jupe Tan, Managing Partner of Plug and Play APAC, who spoke on how venture capital and accelerator ecosystems fuel the next wave of AI-driven growth, and Jayson Poon, Country Manager of Xendit Malaysia, who shared insights on powering Malaysia’s digital economy through payment infrastructure innovation.

In conjunction with the conference, Xendit Malaysia launched its brand showcase, reaffirming its commitment to supporting SMEs and startups with seamless financial technology solutions that accelerate digital adoption.

The event also witnessed a strategic product launch by Alphaswift and Atoz, unveiling a partnership that integrates drone technology and digital platforms to revolutionise smart agriculture — reflecting the convergence of AI, automation, and sustainability.

A major highlight of the day was the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing between Sidec and Plug and Play APAC, marking Malaysia’s first state-led venture capital initiative focused exclusively on AI and semiconductor innovation

Yong Kai Ping, CEO of Sidec, remarked: “AI Innovation Day demonstrates how partnerships and people shape the future of technology. Selangor is building the infrastructure and ecosystem to move Malaysia from being a user of technology to a producer of innovation. Together, we’re scaling Malaysia’s AI frontier.”

Marking Sidec’s 10th anniversary, SDEC 2025 continues to showcase Malaysia’s leadership in technology across AI, semiconductors, and digital commerce. The AI Innovation Conference 2025 not only celebrated strategic collaborations and product innovation but also reaffirmed Malaysia’s ambition to lead Southeast Asia’s deep-tech revolution — where AI, chips, and talent converge to power the next decade of growth.
