UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or the “Company”) today announces the appointment of Shaharul Farez Hassan as its new Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO), and Grace Yap Mei Wan as an Independent Non-Executive Director to its Board of Directors.
The two appointments further strengthen the property developer’s leadership bench as the Company embarks on its next phase of growth, reinforcing its focus on sustainable performance, and long-term value creation for shareholders.

Farez, who will assume the role on 17 November 2025, is a seasoned corporate leader with 30 years of experience across real estate, hospitality, automotive and infrastructure sectors. He led the then publicly listed Tradewinds Corporation Berhad through its transformational phases as the Group Chief Executive Officer and was responsible for key strategic initiatives as the Chief Operating Officer at DRB HICOM Berhad in addition to leading its property development, hospitality and concession businesses.
His experience also extends to a board role at Proton Holdings Berhad, where he contributed to Proton’s strategic growth and transformation initiatives. Farez holds an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Economics & Accounting from the University of Bristol.

Grace, who will join the Board on 3 November 2025, is an accomplished legal and corporate professional with over 30 years of experience in corporate and commercial law, real estate, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, governance, compliance and risk management.
She previously served as Vice President of Legal, Secretariat, Compliance & Risk Management at CapitaLand Malaysia Group, where she led legal, compliance and governance functions for its listed REIT. Her career includes roles with Sime Darby Berhad and Putrajaya Holdings Sdn. Bhd., and she currently sits on the boards of Bata Malaysia Sdn. Bhd, and Sungei Bagan Rubber Company (Malaya) Berhad.
Chairman of UEM Sunrise Datuk Hisham Hamdan said: “On behalf of the Board, I warmly welcome Shaharul Farez Hassan and Grace Yap to UEM Sunrise. Farez brings extensive leadership experience across multiple industries, combining deep operational expertise with a strong background in corporate finance and strategic partnerships, qualities that will be instrumental in restructuring the Company’s balance sheet to fund the Company’s future growth. Meanwhile, Grace brings broad governance and legal experience, having served as external counsel and in-house legal practitioner. Her deep familiarity with the operating cultures of GLCs and private corporations will further strengthen the Board’s oversight and reinforce our commitment to integrity, transparency and accountability.
“Together with Eric Chan, who recently joined the Board, adding both operational and investment banking experience alongside a solid grounding in corporate finance, these new appointments bring fresh perspectives and collective strength in strategy, governance and operational excellence. This renewed leadership composition will also bring both corporate finance and operational background to UEM Sunrise,” he added.
