Basis Bay is set to mark a historic milestone with the official launch of Cyberjaya DC2, the world’s first purpose-built Eco-Green Premium Data Centre. This revolutionary facility represents a new chapter in Malaysia’s journey toward secure, sovereign and sustainable digital infrastructure.

Developed through a joint investment by Basis Bay and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), Cyberjaya DC2 reflects regional collaboration while defining Malaysia’s digital blueprint in shaping a resilient, future-ready infrastructure for the nation.

A Leap Toward Sovereign and Sustainable Infrastructure

To be officiated by Y.B. Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital Malaysia, the launch signifies Malaysia’s leadership in creating a Malaysian-led and controlled data infrastructure that meets the highest global ratings, TIA-942 Rated-4 standards and ISO 27001.

Cyberjaya DC2 stands as the cornerstone of Malaysia’s digital blueprint, built on Basis Bay’s four core pillars: Data Sovereignty, Cyber Availability, Security and Eco-Green Sustainability. It offers Banking,  Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) institutions a compelling value proposition: uncompromising performance with sustainable excellence.

Pioneering Green Innovation

Since introducing Asia’s first green data centre in 2009, Basis Bay has championed Clean IT and  Green IT, driving sustainable innovation and ethical governance. Cyberjaya DC2 advances this legacy with its LEED Gold and GBI Gold certifications, with the ongoing pursuit of Platinum recognition by 2026.  The facility integrates vertical greenery, solar energy generation, rainwater harvesting and efficient cooling to deliver a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.49, surpassing global benchmarks.

Championing Data Sovereignty and Cyber Resilience

Basis Bay’s stance on data sovereignty remains steadfast as sensitive national and financial data must reside within Malaysia’s borders. Built to Bank Negara Malaysia’s RMiT and ISO 27001  standards, Cyberjaya DC2 ensures full data residency, regulatory compliance and cyber resilience, fortifying national security and trust in an era of global digital interdependence.

Uncompromising Physical Security

The facility adopts a multi-layered defence-in-depth approach reinforced with anti-climb and electrical fencing, bollards and bulletproof windows, while a dry moat further deters unauthorised access. Entry into the building is strictly controlled through mantraps, biometric authentication factors, x-ray baggage scanners, walkthrough metal detectors and pandemic-ready private lifts, creating multiple verification layers before gaining access to sensitive areas.

Cyber Availability as a Non-Negotiable

In today’s hyperconnected world, even seconds of downtime can disrupt critical sectors such as banking, healthcare and government services. At Basis Bay, cyber availability is a fundamental commitment, not merely a feature. The facilities are engineered with multi-layered redundancy in power, cooling, and network connectivity to ensure uninterrupted operations, while advanced cybersecurity frameworks detect, mitigate and neutralise threats, including denial-of-service (DoS) and broader cyberwarfare attacks. Proven through real-world crises from regional power instabilities to global cyberattacks, Basis Bay’s data centres have maintained flawless uptime, safeguarding mission-critical systems and reinforcing business continuity, resilience and client trust.

Building Talent for Malaysia’s Digital Future

In partnership with Universiti Malaya, Basis Bay has launched the Basis Bay Data Centre Foundation  Certificate (BBDCFC) — Malaysia’s first data centre foundation programme developed by an operator. Fully accredited and HRD Corp claimable, the initiative nurtures homegrown talent for the data economy while extending training opportunities to underprivileged groups through MySkills  Foundation and ADTEC Kuala Langat (JTM).

Driving ESG and Social Impact

Guided by its ESG principles, Basis Bay integrates sustainability and inclusivity into every facet of its operations. Through strategic education partnerships and green technology investments, the company advances both environmental responsibility and social progress, ensuring that Malaysia’s digital growth is inclusive and benefits all.

Sustainable Partnership with Air Selangor

Underscoring its commitment to sustainable national development, Basis Bay is proud to collaborate with Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), Malaysia’s largest water services provider. Air  Selangor reaffirms its commitment to supporting Malaysia’s national development agenda by welcoming investments that drive sustainable growth, particularly those led by locally owned companies. In line with this, Air Selangor is proud to support Basis Bay in the development of the world’s first purpose-built Eco-Green Premium Data Centre, Cyberjaya DC2.

Adam Saffian Ghazali, Chief Executive Officer of Air Selangor, said that Air Selangor welcomes the Basis Bay Data Centre project as a long-term partnership that supports a locally owned enterprise and underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable growth and Malaysia’s digital transformation.

“As part of this support, we will provide a reliable water supply of 43,710 litres per day (L/day) for the first of three development phases of Basis Bay’s Eco-Green Premium Data Centre. The subsequent phases will be supported progressively, in line with future development approvals and project requirements. As the largest water services provider in Malaysia, Air Selangor remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering high-impact developments through reliable and  sustainable water supply, driving Malaysia’s progress toward a resilient and digitally advanced future.”
