Just hours after Barisan Nasional ruled out contesting in the Penanti by-election, a local businessman has put himself up for the running as an independent candidate.

After being accused of sidelining Dr Chua Soi Lek in the MCA, party president Ong Tee Keat has successfully found him a role in Barisan Nasional.
