It is clear and apparent that what happened on May 7 at the Perak state assembly was a diabolical act that was conceived and executed by the Barisan Natsonal which would come within the parlance of the Malay analogy, saying that it was a case of the ‘keris' turning on its owner.

PM Najib Abdul Razak has been quoted as saying that ‘the pandemonium at the Perak state sssembly was shameful, tarnishing Malaysia's image as a law abiding and democratic country' and further he has expressed his regret over the ‘fiasco' saying it was a tragic development.

By making reference to Winston Churchill changing parties twice, a US Republican senator crossing over to become a Democrat and the Kelantan PAS government ruling the state with one seat majority, it only goes to demonstrate that the Barisan Nasional with Najib at the helm had deliberately created the situation and have now become tyrannical masters.

It is beyond the contemplation of any right-thinking person who believes in civility, that Najib of all persons can audaciously state that: ‘The government has its own rights and the opposition has its own rights too. It is that we remain focused on the rule of law so that our democratic system can function in a mature way.

Only a naive person like Najib can remain focused on the rule of law and function in a mature way.

Najib fails to realise that whilst he recognises that ‘the opposition has its own rights too' it was Najib and his henchmen who violated the sitting of the sacrosanct Perak state assembly.

By calling in the police to enter the assembly and to physically remove the legally-appointed speaker of the Assembly, that is, V Sivakumar, it is apparently clear that Najib and his henchmen have grossly violated the sanctity of the federal constitution, which is the supreme law of the land.

For the knowledge of the people, can anyone from the Barisan group of Najib's henchmen enlighten the public as to which part of the Perak constitution provides for or gave them the authority to do what they did and to call in the police to physically carry out Sivakumar out of the state assembly?

Let us face the facts. What Najib's henchmen did on May 7 was something so fundamentally revolutionary that no right-thinking person would ever believe that such an act and conduct are provided for in the Perak constitution. The question that begs to be answered is, what have they achieved?

No constitution, anywhere in this world would prescribe for such barbaric acts and conduct. May we remind Najib that he and his henchmen have to learn to focus on upholding the rule of law and execute the democratic functions of the state in a mature way.

There is an old maxim which reminds us that ‘qui haeret inlitera, haeret in cortice' which on being interpreted would mean: ‘He who clings to the letter, clings to the dry and barren shell, and misses the truth and the substance of the matter'.

That being the case, Najib and his henchmen should now be prepared to face the on-coming turn of events as the people of Perak have an elephant's memory.

Najib, if you believe in what you have stated, that ‘our democratic system can function in a mature way', then advise your henchmen to support and dissolve the Perak state assembly and let us decide who will get elected.
