'Rakyat tired of politicians'

MCA deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek and PAS vice-president Husam Musa have agreed that there is too much politicking happening in the country.

"The rakyat are tired of politicians. The time has come that we should move forward for the good of the nation and its people," said Chua in a statement after meeting the PAS leader in Johor this morning.

The main issue on the agenda was the ongoing political turmoil in Perak following Barisan Nasional's political coup in February.

Commenting on this, Chua said: "Both of us agreed that protracted politicking in the Perak issue will not do anybody any good, especially the rakyat."

"I conveyed to Husam that, if we practice democracy, then if the court decides that (ousted Pakatan Rakyat menteri besar Mohammad) Nizar (Jamaluddin) is the rightful menteri besar, then he should convene an emergency state assembly (sitting) to see whether he enjoys the support of the majority of the state assemblypersons," he added.

Cooperation needed

If he failed to command the majority, the MCA leader said, Nizar should then seek an audience with the sultan to: -

a) Resign as MB and let the candidate from the party which enjoys the support of the majority of state assemblypersons to be the MB.

b) Dissolve the assembly and call for fresh election with the consent of the sultan.

"However, I pointed out that any party Pakatan or BN forming the state government will not be a stable government, and that if this continues, it will affect not only Perak, but the whole nation.

"I also told him maybe at some point in time, there is a need for fresh state election. Meanwhile, there should be some form of cooperation between Pakatan and BN to resolve this stalemate," he added.

Chua also noted that he and Husam agreed that some of the sensitive issues discussed should be kept off the record.

The PAS leader has yet to comment on the meeting, which was also attended by Chua’s son and Labis MB Tee Yong as well as MCA central committee member Loh Seng Kok.
