Punishment for pioneering?
COMMENT
Cahayasuara Communication Centre is closed at a time when its strength should have been consolidated and its contribution expanded.

We trumpeted the idea of a ‘caring society’ but our economy only produced a ‘high-risk society’, exposing a large section of our people to the vagaries and punishments meted out by a demand-driven market.

The repressed will keep coming back until we are mature and become wise enough as a people to address it by getting to the root of the problems we face.

We want the world to see us as an example of multicultural living but we have really perfected the art of being an ethnocracy, complete with ethnic silos and hegemonic motives.

The important social values couched deep inside the rituals surrounding Thaipusam are lost in commercialisation.
