Zaid Ibrahim not owner of Zaid Ibrahim & Co
As chairperson of Zaid Ibrahim & Co, I would like to point out an error in the Malaysiakini report Ex-Umno minister Zaid joins PKR .
In the report you have described Datuk Zaid Ibrahim as owning the country's largest law firm. I can only assume that you are referring to Zaid Ibrahim & Co which is, in fact, the largest law firm in the country.
It is necessary for me to point out that Zaid Ibrahim & Co is not, in fact, owned by Zaid Ibrahim but is a partnership with several equity holders.
As is required by law, Zaid Ibrahim relinquished all his equity and interests in the firm when he was appointed Minister In the Prime Minister's Department last year.
Today he holds no equity or other interests in the firm. Furthermore as a result of his appointment as a minister, he relinquished his management role in the firm - hence my appointment as his successor as chairperson of the firm.
The current equity holders have continued to maintain the name and style ‘Zaid Ibrahim & Co' as it is a registered trademark and is a brand recognised in the several different countries the firm has a presence in.
It is also appropriate as Zaid Ibrahim not only founded the firm but did much to raise it to its present status.
The writer is chairperson, Zaid Ibrahim & Co .
