Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said students learning maths and science in English can continue to do so until they finish their secondary education.

He also said they also have the option to answer exam questions in both English and Bahasa Malaysia. I would like to allay the concern of many parents with kids in primary schools, or have yet to enter primary school.

These parents would like to see maths and science taught bilingually i.e. in both English and Bahasa Malaysia, even after the last batch of students sit for their SPM in both languages in 2016.

The Lobby Group for English in Maths and Science in Secondary Schools appeals to Tan Sri Muhyiddin to retain English as one of the mediums of instruction in secondary schools over the long term for the sake of our younger generation.

Our Lobby Group has no objections to mother tongue and Bahasa Malaysia being used for primary schools, but we would also like to see English being used as one of the languages to teach maths and science in secondary schools.

In the light of the recent incident where the Parent Teachers Associationof SMK Sri Hartamas was prevented by the authorities from convening an EGM, we would like to appeal to education ministry to allow PTAs to convene EGMs to discuss the issue.

It is the democratic and fundamental right of parents to decide what is the best for their children.
