Whatever manner he spins the above story to garner support for the MCA, the Christians are not stupid. I mean, everyone knows that MCA owns the Star and any attempt to argue that there is editorial independence there will only meet with stifled laughter.

On the matter of the RM400k wristwatch, there are‘kaki bodek’ who always present valuable gifts and public servants who receive them. Not long ago, an ex-menteri besar also received a similar gift.

If it is a momento, then a humble tie or a book should do it. Public servants should be apprehensive of ‘Greeks bearing gifts’.

Worst of all , the news report suggested that it was the Christians who gave the watch to the president of the MCA.

I can't speak on behalf of the established churches in the Klang Valley but my pastor is the poor church mouse and our church budget for the whole year is a fraction of the cost of that watch.

Someone suggested that the MCA president should sell the watch and give the money to the poorer churches, eg, the City Community Church in Melaka. Good idea.
