I refer to the Malaysiakini report Teen shooting: Witness to give statement today .

The shooting of a 14-year-old teenager Aminulrasyid Amzah raises several questions:

1.The schoolgoing boy was said to be driving the car. Aminulrasyid Amzah was a minor, so what was he doing behind the wheel of a car?

Did his family have no problem with him driving illegally, which in itself is against the law? Who is the owner of the Proton Iswara he was driving?

2. How long has Aminulrasyid been doing this, driving out for meals or elsewhere?

With due respect to his mother’s sentiments that her son was a ‘good child’, did she know that her son, a schoolboy, was out until past midnight?

Was she alright with her son flouting the law by driving illegally? Why was there a machete in the car’s boot, if indeed there was one?

While there is absolutely no justification for the police’s action, this regrettable incident does raise questions only Aminulrasyid’s family can answer, provided they do for the sake of the truth.

In the meantime, the public can only hope that this incident is not politicised by both Umno and Pakatan Rakyat to earn political mileage.

The truth must be revealed, irrespective of how much it hurts.

And the mainstream media must strive towards this without turning gullible and straying towards increasing the sale of their newspapers by sensationalising this unfortunate episode.
