Senator Palanivel first among equals
I refer to the Malaysiakini report I deserve to be senator, says Ezam .
Of the four appointed senators, only G Palanivel is an accomplished politician. Senator Ezam Mohd Noor is unpredictable and unreliable and the other two are 'virgins' in the political arena.
Despite the numerous comments on their so-called ‘backdoor entry’, this is still an accepted and honourable way and in some countries, being appointed a senator is more prestigious than being elected.
Palanivel is a straight-talking, no-nonsense, non -scandalous politician who perhaps was the Hulu Selangor by election’s only victim. Having been dropped at the last moment, this gentleman politician neither jumped camps nor spoke ill of his boss and the coalition.
I am not a supporter of Datuk G nor am I an ardent Malaysian political fan but seeing this man campaign for BN in Hulu Selangor selflessly and unashamedly, in a distinguished and dignified manner with his head held high made us all humble and most of all reassured us of the future of Malaysian politics.
Perhaps his greatest weakness was being an introvert and his inability to translate his many endeavours and projects into a massive personal publicity campaign which Malaysian politics is all about.
This man shines and stands apart from our usual race and religion-based politicians who seem to sit on tribal councils.
Senator Palanivel, you are the first among the equals.
