The principle notion of justice is to render something that is due to a person. The rendering of something could be in the form of right to information, equity, to be heard, to due process of inquiry. Any thing short of this vital principles in any justice system brings about the domino effect of weakening of justice resulting to great injustice to the accused or the victim.

Today the notion of justice that is described above is under serious threat especially in  Malaysia  over the years and at present where it happens under thumb of majority political rule, where  cases or individuals who are threat to the ruling power is selectively prosecuted by a prosecuting officer who could frame contradictory charges without being accountable, and denying access to vital information which the accuse  or victim could use to prepare his or her case thoroughly.

The office of the attorney-general warrants serious reform if Malaysia is to make a leap towards a developed nation that upholds high standards of integrity and accountability in its justice system. It is already a proven fact that powerful and well-connected individuals seldom get prosecuted in this country for corruption due to the powerful decision-making powers given to the attorney-general without accountability.

This has also effected the work and reputation of other vital institutions such as the MACC and the police force. While to be fair there are other cases that are not a threat to the political powers that have been settled efficiently, we cannot have a justice system that is contradictory and confusing.

Therefore, since the political elites are much focussed on economic issues to enhance their credibility, Malaysians should convince the ruling elite that the vision of development has its true meaning if it is balanced with institutions of justice that follow due process involving the office of the attorney-general and a judiciary that is capable in putting a brake on abuse of power and corruption and that every individual is given the right to the due process of justice.

At the end of the day, it is the integral human development that is rooted in justice, truth and fair play that is generated through politics, economics and social activities that would ultimately bring about stability and prosperity to the beloved nation of ours in the long run.
