I am appalled at the audacity of Budget 2011 and its many ‘lets help ourselves’ policies and legalised misuse.

Where do we start for everywhere we look, the civil service is burning a big hole in our tax dollars. Its absolutely mind-boggling how no one makes any noise about this at all; just accepting our hard-earned and contributed tax dollars just being blown away.

I can’t do anything about this as I can only watch in sadness and my vote is just one. Instead of looking at this critically (like Tony Pua) the rest of the opposition is into grandstanding, seeking to score points rather then protect the people’ money.

Budget 2011 allocates RM162 billion to administrative/operations and merely RM49 billion to development. This is basically a 76% to 24% breakdown. This is extremely bad as the development expenses are the one that will create future revenue and the ratio should be higher for development.

Out of this operations expenses, a total of RM132 billion is for salary and emoluments ( this being 62.2 % is absolutely mind boggling.) Our government is spending 62% of the budget on payment to federal employees and this does not include those of EPF, Khazanah, Prokhas.

Doesn’t anyone else think this is outrageous? What this means is that for every ringgit that we pay in taxes or duties or service taxes, 62 sen goes towards paying the salaries of our bloated civil service which keeps increasing in numbers by the day (now that we have to pay Pemandu, Talent Corporation and many others).

They use to say that private sector is the best place to be. That’s is no longer true as in Malaysia the public sector leads the way now especially the GLCs and government agencies with their big pay scales, super bonuses and other incentive payments plus generous medical and further study benefits.

I am trying my best to get employed in one of these places. If you can’t beat them, just join them.
