Company discouraging workers from joining unions
ST Microelectronics Sdn Bhd via its human resource department had recently taken action to one of its workers who has served for more than 16 years in the company recently as an example to other workers “not to join any union or we take severe action”.
Any workers who are suspected to be involved in unions that take place even outside ST premises and not during working, will be under closely ‘monitored’ by management spies.
The management will try to look for any mistakes done by these suspected workers and they will be fired even if the mistake is still tolerable.
There will be no warnings, but just termination of the workers.
We believe this action is just to create fear amongst other workers. Will this action succeed? Probably yes, but in the long run, it will create more hatred and anger towards the ST Microelectronics management.
We, as workers of ST Microelectronics have always supported and backed any worker whom we think it is unjustly treated.
We want justice to be served for the worker. We won’t allow ST Microelectronics to misuse their powers by punishing workers who fight for their rights.
We are not complaining about ST but because of several people in the company abusing their powers, it is now getting a bad name.
