The recent defence by the House Speaker that a Minister has the right not to answer questions posed by MPs is laughable, if not so painfully corrupt. There is no justification for not divulging allowances given to top government officials. Its simple transparent finance to do so and anything else is just corruption.

The government is supposed to be accountable to Parliament who represents the people who elected them but our politicians and top government servants obviously believe they are different. That the majority MPs who have taken such "Orwellian mentality" is not just ironic but highly frightening. Just how close is Malaysia to Animal Farm ?

The fact that the defence by the speaker on such a move shows sheer stupidity. They could not come out with any reason other than "public interest" and out-of-context rules? If I were to lie, at least I would twist the statistics to do so but they are not even competent enough to do so. But it shows when one keeps lying; sooner or later, you get caught.

The truth is that the disrespect for Parliament and the law is the hallmark of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Other PM before him had more disrespect for the rule of law and principles of truth. The Mahafiraun, in the name of practical results and his own agenda, has never really respected the law and our original founding constitution.

Hence it is not surprising that others under him have adopted the same attitude and culture. Like Stalin and Mao, he started believing in his own specialness and finds justifications for them. When he is gone, others even more twisted will believe even more of their own specialness until eventually, only they or one person is special and the rest be damned.
