Today it is reported that MACC wants a law to punish civil servants who waste public money. Well, the first people they should punish is the cabinet and home ministers past and present, for wasting public money and valuable court time on the ‘Allah’ appeal.

Wednesday’s statement by Joseph Kurup proves that the ‘Allah’ row, and all the interreligious acrimony it has caused across Malaysia, is the sole cause of the BN ministers.

It all started with a silly ban by the home minister in 2009 that led to the High Court making a sensible ruling against the action.

Then the home minister did the stupid thing, he appealed against the ruling. The government, although having the right to appeal, has to weigh if it is in the nation's interest. After all, the court had ruled, why appeal? It shows it is partial to one side only, when it should be impartial to either Muslim or Christian.

They would not have been faulted for saying the court had ruled, and leave it at that. But no, they wanted to play champion of Malay-Muslim supremacy, so the pushed and pushed the issue.

When it became obvious that they were looking bad, they outsourced the noise to their fake NGO Perkasa, which is actually a BN wing, as the candidacies of Ibrahim Ali and Zulkifli Noordin in GE13 have proven without doubt.

Then the next twist, the succeeding home minister, Hishammuddin Hussein, then said his predecessor shouldn’t have appealed, if memory serves me right. Yeah, sounds good, but what did Hisham do after that? He rejoiced at the Appeal Court verdict last week. Talk about transparent insincerity.

He could have followed the Selangor Pakatan government’s excellent example of how a government should remain impartial in such disputes. Selangor withdrew the appeal of its predecessing officers over the Orang Asli land issue. That was the right thing to do. Hisham and the whole bunch of cabinet ministers post-2009 could have done the same.

But no, they dragged it out to salvage the Malay votes, and put it on hold during GE13 (as if we didn’t notice), and now that the Umno (ketuanan Melayu) election is coming, they made sure they scored one for the Malay-Muslims.

But in the face of international ridicule, they have sent the clown, Kurup, to look stupid by contradicting the court’s ruling. All in one week. If the cabinet really didn't have an issue with Christians in Borneo using Allah, then why didn’t they withdraw the appeal and save us valuable resources?

And all you BN component eunuchs like MCA and Gerakan, when you had cabinet ministers, why didn’t you push for the appeal to be dropped? Afraid big brother wouldn’t give you any seats in GE13, no doubt. But now you make noise to “fight for the minorities”. Yeah, right. As if you didn’t know how the appeal would go, when the rest of the country already did long ago.

Does the government have too much money to spend, and our courts too much time on their hands? Well, with the obvious four years of resources wasted, I say, MACC, go ahead. Punish them all for, again, wasting our time and money.

This ‘Allah’ fiasco is just the tip of the iceberg of how our ministers have wasted and wasted our money. They should be first on your list.
