I can see that many contributors to the letters column are the elite of the Malaysian population. I admire and respect them for their contributions and views even though I might not agree with everyone. It is healthy to debate and discuss issues.

On the other hand, if we believe that by debating and discussing the burning issues in malaysiakini we are going to change Malaysia, then we are deluding ourselves, as we may only make up 0.01 percent of the population.

There is a lot not right with Malaysia. I won't go into details as all of you know (the situation) already. I have a large family and we come in different shapes and views. I can relate to malaysiakini readers but have much problems convincing my own family and blood relations to understand and see the bigger picture.

I have one vote and my family, 150 votes. I might vote for all that should be in Malaysia but the other 149 votes will vote for what is, or has been all along. If I have the problem converting 149 votes, then the 0.01 percent of the Malaysian population would also face the same problem.

I did not chose to be part of the 0.01 percent - it happened to me. Until it happens to the general populace, we can discuss, deliberate and debate the Malaysia that should be. But it won't happen. Not in my lifetime, I guess.
