This is an open letter to US Ambassador to Malaysia Marie T Huhtala. The surrender or capture of Iraq's former deputy prime minister Tareq Aziz is not the greatest coup for coalition forces.

Not even Farouk Hijazi, Iraq's spy chief or even President Saddam Hussein himself. The o­ne that will take the cake will be the apprehension of ex Iraqi's Minister of 'Disinformation', Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf.

I hope that if and when he is caught, he will not be treated too harshly especially since his o­nly crime is disinformation and not crimes against humanity. This guy is a comedic sensation. He is gifted with this great talent to make us all laugh. He is therefore identified with the great cause of making everyone happy. It serves humanity and civilisation no good to put such a phenomenon in prison.

Mohammed Saeed is now an international household name with a large following including the number o­ne fan of President George W Bush. It was reported that Bush would always come out from meetings to listen to this guy's briefings o­n the Iraq war.

Cyberspace is now replete with his humorous quotes, often said with a straight face.

At first I thought Saddam recruited him as a schizophrenic detached from reality from Baghdad asylum. But no, he was training to be an English school teacher. He has this knack for a picturesque turn of phrase. Over time, I realised the man could be a genius.

On news that American forces have captured Saddam Hussein International Airport, he said, "Don't listen to lies of the liars".

What an ingenuous pun: a liar is by definition someone who lies about the truth so that if a liar lies about lies, then the "lies" stated by the liar must have been true!

Mohammed Saeed has a fan club and a website has been created for him. He should be enticed to come out from wherever he is and in exchange for cooperation o­n information pertaining to the whereabouts of Saddam's weapons of mass destruction, and given amnesty. Hopefully he will not squander the opportunity of a lifetime by giving further disinformation this time around o­n WMD.

Better still, give him a permanent residence in US where he could make a living in giving talk shows. He could even be appointed election campaigner for George Bush.

This guy can make all kinds of digs against your political rival and none will come out angrier. With a guy of his reputation, he can make all kinds of disinformation in praise of Bush's re-election and against his political rival without political backlash because people will just say that is o­nly vintage Mohammed Saeed.

People will give the votes simply because he will delight them. President Bush George should really consider this possibility.

It will go a long way to win the hearts and mind of Iraqis. It will show the benefits of following the 'American way'. It has great propaganda value that America is a land of opportunities - even for the ex-Iraqi disinformation minister.

I therefore hope if the American Ambassador Marie T Huhtala reads this, she will communicate this suggestion to President Bush.
