With respect to Abdul Rahman Abdul Talib , PAS' image problem is theocracy and the fact he views it due to strong anti-vice is classic in showing why it is so easy for those who believe in theocracy to fail to see the larger picture.

The fact of the matter is that most voters are not at least more intelligent than Abdul Talib gives them credit for. They know that the answers to problems like vice is not the hammer of theocracy. It is only human to want it to be simple but the fact of the matter every time one resorts to simple solutions, the solution comes back with even more problem and that is precisely the problem with theocracy.

It is a deceptively seemingly easy answer that can cause havoc. How does Abdul Talib think that ISA first came about? The same goes for communism, military-dictatorships, juntas, fascism and, yes, racism and the NEP.

Forbidding people from holding hands and kissing in public is not anti-vice but theocratic. Forbidding people from taking responsible gambling is not anti-vice but theocractic. Punishing rape victims and gays is not anti-vice but theocratic. Banning alcohol consumption rather than drunkeness is not anti-vice but theocratic.

These are merely simple human duality and humans have more dimensions than duality for which simple answers destroy more than they solve problems. They will not solve the problem of corruption, state dependence by bumiputras, climbing the technological and industrial ladder and not even private vices.

Sorry Abdul Talib, most of what you thought of has been thought of already by a larger smarter community that has a better right to lead than you.
