Anwar Ibrahim and Free Anwar Campaign (FAC) had responded swiftly, credibly and convincingly to the slanderous and misleading story 'sexed up' by SBS' Dateline programme which linked him to Islamic terrorism.

Anwar has shown extraordinary courage, integrity and determination that despite the squalid conditions he is locked in, to vehemently condemn the false allegations to smear him, his family, the FAC and the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT).

The Dateline story is nothing more than a deceitful, complicit, and virulent stratagem orchestrated by Anwar's enemies - both his political opponents and the anti-Islamic organisations - to smear and to disparage Anwar, FAC and the IIIT. While SBS takes pride to be the only Australian broadcaster to deliver multicultural and multilingual TV services that provide credible source of information to its audience, it should have known better of this prejudicial and slanderous story.

It is a hypocrisy that the transcript for the story could not be found on its website . What is there to hide?

I am not a Muslim by descent but I do however, understand and value the vision of a moderate, pragmatic and progressive Islam which Anwar and the reputable International Institute of Islamic Thought have championed. They represent a civilisational dialogue on a 'convivencia' based on respect, human liberty, dignity, equality and social justice for the progress of mankind.

It is inconceivable for SBS-TV to produce such an ill-conceived, simplistic, counter-productive story that skewed the truth and misled its audience over Anwar and the IIIT. I guess its lust formedia grab and publicity by airing such story had backfired and its credibility had been shot to shred in the name of cultural diversity and harmony under this climate of international instability.
