I can't see the logic of having opposition members of parliament declare their assets.

The purpose of an asset-declaring exercise for government ministers is to avoid conflicts of interest in official decision-making processes or to prevent corrupt practices e.g, in the awarding of tenders, etc.

Furthermore, in most Western democracies, the asset declaration register by ministers is fairly accessible to the public.

It defeats the whole purpose when access to the register is restricted, as in Malaysia, to only the prime minister and the state Barisan Nasional chairperson.
