Closet apologists in the Malacca Straits
I refer to the letter Allow US forces in the straits . Kelvin Ong is yet another example of the 'armchair generals' who seem to proliferate in the letters section of malaysiakini .
One wonders why Ong does not employ his strategic intellect to answer simple questions like the following:
1) Is it valid to compare the Malaysian Navy with the Singapore Navy when Singapore spends close to eight percent of its GDP annually, and consistently, on its defence budget?
2) Why does he not question why the 'source countries' of the pirates are not doing more to shut these nefarious activities down?
3) Is he paying lip service to concepts such as 'territorial integrity' and 'national sovereignity'? They may mean little to people like Ong, but even the mighty US places great store on such concepts.
4) What role does he think the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) should play? Defend the country against external aggression? Fight terrorism? Invoke the right of 'hot pursuit' to chase pirates into their home waters and take out their bases in neighbouring countries?
Little men with closed minds apparently spend much of their time thinking on how to run down the government and what it is trying to do. Are they all closet apologists for the likes of Singapore and the US?
