As one of the 1.6 billion believers of Islam in the world today, I am obliged to comment on the derogatory remarks posted by the mysterious 'Anwar' on Jeff Ooi's blog via malaysiakini.
Irrespective of whether Anwar is a Muslim, Christian, Buddhist or a non-believer in God the Almighty, my Muslim brothers, sisters and I have been offended and take strong exception to Anwar's cowardice in condemning the virtues of the Islamic religion.
In view of the wide media coverage on this issue , Anwar should emerge and identify himself or herself voluntarily without any pressure from the Malaysian authorities in order to defend his/her derogatory remarks which have affected the spiritual feelings of all Muslims around the world.
On the other hand, Jeff Ooi's explanation on Anwar's posting on his Screenshots blog has demonstrated his responsibility and personal concern over the issue in response to media criticism.
However, I would like to urge Ooi to take another bold step forward in exposing Anwar's identity which, in fact, should have been registered by his blog before his postings were released online.
In this respect, Energy, Water and Communications Minister Lim Keng Yaik's media response to the issue, which should trigger further investigations by the relevant bodies, is commendable in light of public criticism over the disgusting remarks by Anwar.
Having said that, it is equally important that all responsible Malaysians be well informed on the 10 guiding principles of Islam Hadhari as initiated by our Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
The virtue of Islam Hadhari is not an intrusion onto the Islamic faith or the Hadiths and it should not be exploited by PAS and other Islamic extremist groups for their political mileage.
Islam is a way of life espousing peaceful co-existence and Islam Hadhari is a brilliant ideology for all Malaysians and to spur the nation forward on many fronts including in socio-economics.
I am optimistic that the government will soon develop the blueprint for this ideology based on the teachings of Islam. Give Pak Lah and the government a chance to transform the positive traits of Islam Hadhari into action for the benefit of the people and thereby take the nation to another higher level of international recognition.
