Indeed the video on how Jamal Mohd Yunos of the red shirts confronted the Bersih 5 team at Teluk Intan and provocatively intimidated the latter by snatching threateningly their banner, is a blessing. Likewise the 2,000 organised motorbike mob in Penang, also by the red shirt team, is also another blessing.

The blessing is, it clearly showcases two truths.

Firstly, the world that is closely watching developments in Malaysia can see for themselves that the red shirts are aggressive, unlike the yellow shirt marchers who display a well-behaved, civil and peaceful stance.

Secondly, the red shirts’ behaviour clearly give the impression that Umno is very desperate and is going for broke in its political battle for power.

In addition, the red shirts are also putting the reputation of the police on a vulnerable balance. Their intimidating lack of respect for the rule of law and clearly demonstrating that they have the backing of power brokers further strengthens the public’s perception that the police may be biased or have become subservient to political masters.

Sadly, Umno thinks it is the right thing to do by allowing its own members to take to the streets in a confrontational stance to defend the party. The party leaders fail to recognise that more Malays are going to be awakened to the fact that Umno is seriously ill.

The silence of even BN party heads as they witnesses the rowdy strategies employed by supporters of Umno will further strengthen the people’s belief that Bersih is indeed clean and noble in its aims, while BN has lost its soul.

For Najib Abdul Razak, his cards are running out, which explains why he is not distancing himself from the aggression displayed by the red shirts. Even though he is a prime minister for all citizens, he has instead chosen to don only the robe of president of a political party in the wake of the citizens’ national pursuit to develop the country through clean, fair and just democracy.

In a nutshell, Bersih is winning thanks to Najib’s team, the red shirts.
