In the letter titled Double thinking to the seventh level of hell , the writer mentioned that: 'We live in a peaceful society with only the occasional skirmishes, and like the majority of the population, I prefer living in such an environment. I disagree with the statement that they don't have enough avenues to express themselves a lot of the sermons I've listened to at mosques had PAS ideology underlining them.'

I would like to make a correction to this statement. It is an open secret that all sermons in Malaysia (except in Kelantan and in Terengganu during PAS rule) are prepared by the government's religious affairs department and all the 'imam' have to read out these sermons.

They are not allowed to give their own sermons. These religious affairs departments are in states controlled by the Barisan Nasional and some of the people inside these departments are active Umno members including the 'imam' who read the sermons. As such, how is it PAS' message is in the sermons?

If there are 'imam' who are inclined to PAS or Keadilan, they will be removed as what happened in Terengganu when BN took control of the state from PAS. PAS doesn't have any avenue in state-controlled mosques.

The opposition party might have control of privately owned or independent 'surau' and even these are being monitored by the religious affairs officers in order to prevent them from being from being used by PAS to deliver its message.

So why did the writer claim in his letter that PAS ideology was all over the sermons which he heard? It is because PAS ideology is Islam itself. What Islam wants is also what PAS wants. What Islam doesn't want is also what PAS doesn't want.

Muslims should accept all aspect of their religion. It is the same as when we are Malaysians, we should all accept Malaysian laws. The only difference being that man-made laws can be amended but God's law cannot.
