With regards to your report Uncle George' - Nepali worker's beacon of hope , I am happy that in today's dog-eat-dog world, we still have Good Samaritans who go to great lengths to fight for a noble cause.

But this letter is not to praise Uncle George; we all know he doesn't need any sort public recognition or a celebrity status. He did what he did because he believed it doing what is right.

My question to all pertains to the authorities' mismanagement of the whole episode involving Nepalese worker Mangal Bahadur Gurung who was wrongly imprisoned and whipped by the Malaysian courts for an immigration offence he did not commit.

From his wrongful arrest and the authority's failure to investigate his case to his 51 days in hell (prison) and caning, many questions remain unanswered.

Why did the authorities fail to investigate this whole case thoroughly and professionally? What about the mountain of effort that the Good Samaritan put in just to be mocked and ignored by the immigration department, the Nepalese embassy and that ever-controversial one, the Royal Malaysian Police?

What about the repercussions and consequences - mentally, physically and emotionally - this innocent Nepalese worker will now suffer as a result of his horrible experience?

There are many things we should question about and the case is far from over. Why aren't the authorities offering a public apology? Why aren't they offering some monetary compensation? Where is the compassion? Where is the courage to apologise?

You took away 51 days from the life of an innocent Nepalese worker, put him into jail, you caned him and prevented communication with his family, you caused him pain and fear and after all that you think the case is over, just like that?

On humanity's behalf, I express my utmost gratitude to Uncle George for his great bravery and courage. I wish Mangal Bahadur the very best in his future endeavours and hopes he will have a happy life together with the rest of his loved ones.

To the various authorities involved in this disgusting episode, I can only say I feel sorry for them. I can only hope they will increase your professionalism and efficiency in the future. Please do not ever commit such blunders again which achieve nothing except cause irreparable damage.

It is never too late to do good. An apology and an offer of some compensation out of compassion would be great. It will change one's life.
