LETTER | I am aware that another perspective in this cacophony of keyboard warriors and pundits is about as necessary as a rash on your buttocks, but what the heck.

I do not think Pakatan Harapan deserves to win. Right just now, my word processor auto-corrected Pakatan to Pakistan which is only slightly ironic considering the latter being a veteran in bungling multi-party democracies and the former an aspiring one with plenty of promise.

While Pakistan Harapan would have made for an awful brand for the coalition, the opposition’s attempt at forming a sincere and respectable alternative at the voting booths seems like it may have been developed at the same brainstorming session aimed at taking the mickey out of the Malaysian public.

Candidates parachuted in at the last minute, infighting, previously elected MPs feigning ignorance on hot-button issues and a dearth of charisma desperately replaced by a teary-eyed, repentant nonagenarian.

For all, it’s promises of deep integration and a return to the wondrously harmonious times of Tunku’s days, apart from a handful of sincere and hardworking Pakatan Harapan representatives the rest disappeared into the ether only to seen when summoned by their own cronies and benefactors.

Same-same but different.

Same-same excuses.

Same-same politics.

Same-same promises.

Different baju.

Before winning, don't know; after winning, don't care.

But at least we have each other. All of us unified with one common goal - to see a change in Putrajaya. Moments after we watch the new guard march in and take the old names off the doors all will be well in Tanahairku Malaysia.

Your head la.

Remember how many times we went back and forth on English as the medium for Science and Maths? We changed entire textbooks and teaching materials, retrained teachers back and forth, back and forth until the poor kids wondered if Algebra and Aljabar were evil twins who hated children.

And this by people on the same team.

These champs we’ve got as an alternative don’t even like each other. It’s all about their self-interests and their own parties. It is about negotiating territories and who gets which seats and playing prime ministerial musical chairs.

At what point do you think they’ll get down to the topic of which medium is best for Maths and Science? By the next elections?

No, I’m not a fan of this lot. We could and should do much better. Much, much better. We owe it to ourselves.

And to those of you whose eyebrows are by now twitching in fury just waiting for this last sentence to be over so you can speedily point out my shortcomings as a human in the comments section, let me ask you;

Do you know what the difference between ignorance and apathy is?

Don’t know. Don’t care.
