LETTER | It has been a month since GE14 but the euphoria of a new government is still high. One can feel the positive energy and good vibes among friends and even strangers.

The sun seems brighter, air fresher and flowers more beautiful. We are looking at Malaysia with fresh eyes. What a wonderful world!

GE14 was a turning point in Malaysia’s history and we needed a paradigm shift to understand a new Malaysian culture and way of life. There is now a common mindset to work towards the good of the whole rather than for selfish interest.

As such the generosity of self-inflicted pay cuts and crowdfunding to settle our national debt. All Malaysians abroad are also with us in spirit. Their hearts still belong to Malaysia.

Though steps are in place to reclaim from abroad what rightfully belongs to us, this will take time for the process to be completed. Meanwhile, there are penalties to be faced if we do not meet payment deadlines due.

Within a week we have managed to raise over RM30 million ringgit from within Malaysia. Maybe we should now consider casting our net further to include crowdfunding from Malaysians abroad.

I do not think they would mind contributing if we asked. After all, they still have relatives in Malaysia and their hearts are still with us. This is exactly what rich and successful immigrants, who have carved better lives overseas, do for their homelands worldwide.

Moreover, the value of their money is so much stronger so their contributions will be negligible to them whether in England, Europe, Australia, the US or even Singapore. Our Malaysian consulates abroad can help coordinate this.

We are confident that our new strong team of leaders have the competency and integrity to put Malaysia on track again. A country that is based on merit and able to live in peace and harmony as Malaysians, irrespective of race, colour or creed.

A Malaysia that we could all identify with in Lat’s cartoons, laugh at ourselves and accept our differences.

Transformation is a long process. This is only the beginning but like ripples in a pool we will inevitably touch and affect each other.

With love, respect and hope we will see miracles happen for ourselves and our children. We are instruments of God’s ongoing creation. If we believe. Let’s make it happen!
