LETTER | To all our newly minted members of Parliament and state legislative assembly persons of a brave new Malaysia! Firstly, congratulations on successfully being elected as a representative of the rakyat.

Now, let’s cut to the chase. The honeymoon period should be over by now and you guys and gals should be hitting the ground running as we see our reelected Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad doing.

In 2015, I met Hannah Yeoh at the MPSJ fun run and told her not to behave like the BN reps. What did I mean by that? It means that you guys should not be doing the following as what the previous guys had been doing:

MP’s should not be late for functions held anywhere either officially or unofficially. Why should the people who voted you into power wait for you? You should be there earlier to welcome the people and not the other way around.

YB means "Yang Berkhidmat" and not "Yang Berhormat". We don’t need to address you as YB. We will call you by your name as is in your IC. Start working for the people and don’t tell the people to work for you.

We don’t need to bow in respect to you as is the practice now. We are all equals. Treat us as you would want us to treat you.

You don’t need any special privileges as you should be giving the rakyat these special privileges.

You should use public transport for your official functions. Only use your own transport for your personal travels

No business class air travel. Use economy class for wherever you travel.

No Approved Permit (AP) should be given to you to buy any type of car. If you buy luxury cars or houses, we will come and ask you to show us how you bought it with your salary. Please be ready. All APs should be abolished immediately!

We want you to disclose your assets to us the people and not just to the PM or government integrity agencies. This is the only way we will know that you are being absolutely honest and transparent in all your actions.

You should not be a director for any company. If you are, please resign immediately.

An elected representative should only serve for a maximum of two terms only. This is to curb ego and greed from overpowering you. There is always new blood whom can serve the people. There shouldn’t be any "Supermen" or "Superwomen" that Malaysia has to depend on. All political reps are expendable.

We feel that if the above good governance practices are implemented immediately, then Malaysia has a chance of really becoming great and revered by the world.

We should eradicate corruption in its entirety. This should be the pulse of the country and not just for elected representatives.

We hope that the new Malaysia that we have now can be a reality instead of just being a fairy tale that is only a dream.

Dreams die first. Let’s not dream but take action now.
