LETTER | We refer to the letter Harapan proposal on EPF contribution for housewives mere tokenism.
Pakatan Harapan Women would like to thank Dr Kumar Devaraj for his support for housewives and working mothers.
We would like to hear from other leaders too in voicing their recognition on the role and contribution of housewives to our nation’s growth and development.
Dr Kumar’s proposal is what we would like to accomplish one day. But we have to start somewhere and improve from that point.
The EPF contributions initiative is the starting point to raise the awareness for the need for a safety net for non-employed women or housewives during their golden years.
Of course, the amount is small compared to their actual social/household contribution but already we are hearing protests from some menfolk or husbands and certain quarters to this plan.
There are many aspects that we have to study and changes to be made to our laws and policies.
The EPF proposal is just the beginning and is one of the things we would like to do first.
We will study all suggestions from all sectors and leaders. We would also like to hear from home-makers too.
The writer is Pakatan Harapan Women deputy head and Selangor exco for
Health, Welfare, Women and Family Empowerment.
