Please listen to Shahrir
I believe Malaysians will welcome and benefit a lot if Shahrir Samad's view on the setting up of an Independent Police Complaint and Misconduct Commission materialised.
In the 60s and 70s, Hong Kong had one of the most corrupted and least disciplined police forces in the world, and the people suffered greatly while the police received very little respect from the society.
After the setting up of an Independent Commission Against Corruption, a watchdog body on the conduct of the police force, and after the sacrifice of many righteous members of the commission, today, the police force in Hong Kong is one of the most respected in the world, and which even Jackie Chan glorified by making a series of 'Police Story' movies.
Malaysians certainly do not enjoy criticising our police force. Indeed, we would rather have our police force glorified, if and when justified.
