What a delight it was to read Dr Mahathir Mohmad's latest gobbledegook about how he stopped his children from ever becoming involved with the government and in any way benefitting from his position as the long-time prime minister of Malaysia.

Excuse me? Just what kind of nonsense are we hearing here? Are we seriously expected to believe that Mirzan would have got a RM1.7 billion bailout from Petronas if his daddy wasn't the PM and the effective boss of Petronas? Or that Mukhriz would have become very senior in Umno Youth without daddy's intervention? Or that Mokhzani would have been granted a sole licence as the importer of Porsche cars if he had not had such an elevated and influential father?

What is really disgusting about Dr M's statements is that it insults all Malaysians in the most blatant and patronising way. He clearly thinks that his people are all so blindingly stupid and browbeaten that they will swallow such verbal diarrhoea and doublespeak and are totally incapable of making any kind of informed judgements about how his children became so wealthy and pampered.

So in just one week we Malaysians have had to endure the statements of two ageing, decrepit and nearly senile ex-leaders and leaders. Dr M trying to convince us that his children never benefitted from his position and the even more idiotic notion from Taib Mahmud of Sarawak that a Soviet style, one-party dictatorship is the best form of government for his state. Of course, Taib perfected the skill of nepotism and corruption even before Dr M got into the act.

Forget Dr M and boot Taib out of office as soon as possible and let Malaysians start living in the real world once again.
