I fully agree with KSN that pre-Ghazali Shafie system of issuing PR status to foreign-born wives or husbands of Malaysians be brought back immediately to resolve the problems being encountered by this group of people.

Many foreign-born wives are suffering with the perpetual uncertainty of their lives and livelihood here having been married to citizens of this country.

It is indeed unrighteous and undemocratic for the government to issue PR status and even citizenship to millions of Indonesian and Filipinos while many Indians and Chinese in the rural areas are denied Malaysian identity cards even though their ancestors and parents were born here.

The MIC, Gerakan, MCA and other righteousness-based parties should seriously take up this matter immediately with the cabinet to put things in order. The illiterate Indians in the estates did not bother to take birth certificates or identity cards for their children. This is a fact and I am sure the MIC has records of such poor people living from hand to mouth.

The Umno government need not worry that by giving citizenship to these poor souls, the demography of this nation is going to be tilted in favour of the non-Malays. These few thousands of Indians and Chinese are too insignificant to disturb the balance.

Before Merdeka, the Malays were really less than 50 percent of the population but with Umno's political strategy over years, the Malays are now more than 65 percent of the population with the 'import' of Indonesians.

Umno, being the leader of the BN government, should therefore on compassionate and social grounds help out these poor Indians and Chinese so that they can eke a proper living rather than becoming gangsters and robbers. MIC, Gerakan and MCA, please follow up.
