I refer to the malaysiakini report Umno leader: Penang's Sg Nyior toll unjustified .

I strongly agree with their grievance of the Sg Nyior residents. That road has been in existence for quite some time and just with a little bit of upgrading or repair, the poor commuters are now slapped with a toll.

At a glance, the toll may not look exorbitant. But if one (and there are many of them) were to use the road three or four times a day, the toll amount will really tell on your budget.

As I understand, the whole Borr project cost only RM410million. This sum is not really big if it is spent for the benefit of thousands of commuters. The government should have undertaken the project and save thousands of people of the extra financial burden instead of farming it out to a concessionaire.

The famous excuse Works Minister S Samy Vellu usually gives is that the government does not have that amount of money. After seeing so much extravagance on the part of the government, I find that excuse really lame.

The money spent on a new private jet for Pak Lah's use could have financed half the cost of the Borr project. Then the millions of pounds budgeted for the high-performance sports academy in the UK could be channelled to meet the balance.

I am sure Pak Lah, being a prudent and religious person, would not mind forgoing the extra luxuries of flying about in a new jet. After all, Lee Kuan Yew could make do with First Class on a normal scheduled SIA.

We definitely do not need a high-performance sports academy in far away London where the cost of maintenance would be exorbitant. I do support such ideals. If we want to take on the world in sports, my suggestion is that we train our soccer team in one of the Asian countries that is going to host the next Asian games.

Let them train there for a duration of four years before the start of the games. If the team can win a gold medal, then the sports academy in London is definitely needed.

But for the time being, use the hard-earned money of the rakyat to buy over the Borr and allow us the use it free of charge.
