It is disgusting to see that the generals of Burma are recalcitrant and are dastardly cruel to the people of that country. These generals have no conscience for the cruelty they are causing the Burmese people. Their only interest is their own selfish interest in making money for themselves and their cronies.

Now, who is to be blamed for this state of affairs? They say that what government or leaders you get is your own making meaning it is always people's apathy in their own political affairs. The people must always be best informed and speak up when things go wrong under their own noses.

They must not think that since injustices do not happen to them, why should they worry. The comfort zone of such people will soon disappear with more and more cronies joining the global bandwagon for selfish interests. The people of Burma lost their power in that way - slowly but surely.

The cunning junta generals have China and Russia supporting them for mutual benefits. These two giant countries have the culture of dictatorship and totalitarianism and they will veto all the UN Security Council resolutions that aim to help Burma.

The last UN secretary-general, Kofi Annan, tried to get rid of this veto system but failed pathetically as the superpowers were too powerful for him. But in this globalised world, we cannot any longer talk of not interfering in the political affairs of another country especially when innocent people are being brutally killed or massacred.

The UN should take control of the situation. All member UN states should now sign a declaration that states when democracy fails in a nation, the UN can interfere to put its political system back in order. This should also include coming to power by gerrymandering and vote-rigging.

Now that the monks and the people of Burma are taking solid action, the UN Security Council should strike to get rid of the generals of Burma and charge them for all misdeeds. The UN Security Council's single-veto block must stop and be replaced with a majority vote.

Let us help the Burmese people NOW. May the Lord Buddha bless them with courage and wisdom to do right thing for their country.
