Pak Lah, Malaysians put great hopes on you when you took over the premiership four years ago. Back then, you had a ‘Mr Clean’ and ‘nice guy’ image. However this image got tarnished when people alleged that your son and son-in-law were favoured for government contracts and businesses. This was stated by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself.

You often state that you are a prime minister for all Malaysians, not just a particular race. But lately, your decisions do not reflect fair play. I am nearly as old as you are and have seen the ups and downs of this country. I sincerely hoped that you would steer this country to greater heights especially in eradicating poverty among all races and provide them with education and necessary skills. I know you were trying your best to this end.

But due to the patronage system within Umno, you have been given wrong political advice. Perhaps this could be a political strategy from within to make you unpopular.

Is it so difficult to find a suitable man of excellent erudition and character from amongst the 10,000 legally-trained to fill the chief justice post?

Bersih only wanted to clean up the electoral system, especially the casting of postal votes which, the opposition has reason to believe, has been abused in the past. This was a fair request but again you were advised wrongly to make you unpopular.

The poor chaps of Hindraf have written so many petitions and letters to you and the authorities, none of which were acknowledged. Instead, silly statements have been made, such as they should have written to the authorities rather than hold the rally. Now the Selangor mentri besar has said alternative land would be provided for the temple and that Indian squatters would be allotted low-cost flats.

If these were done when the Indians first petitioned, you would have been more popular as the prime minister, so would the mentri besar.

The charges against Hindraf supporters for attempting to murder a policeman during the rally has brought your unpopularity to the zenith especially when the prosecution was led by the attorney-general himself before a session court judge who is his subordinate. This charge is the most atrocious ingenuity.

So, dear Pak Lah, the people still love you because we don’t have a better choice at present. National interests cannot override public interests because people are ultimately the nation. They can build a nation or destroy it. In a multiracial country, stop playing the game of pitting once race against the other. Adopt fair and righteous policies in race management.

Please advice the attorney-general to withdraw the murder charges against those poor, innocent Hindraf souls. As you recently said, “When I die, I have to answer God.” God will indeed bless you, the police chief and AG if the attempted murder charges are withdrawn.
