LETTER | Are we permanently sinking in culture of corruption?

LETTER | Every Malaysian who professes to be patriotic, and every politician who never ceases to make war cries to defend race, religion, and nation must register their vehement objections to all forms of corruption within our police and defence institutions.

Sadly, such an abhorrence and condemnation against cases of corruption does not seem to gain traction, compared to news of rape cases and raids on wellness centres in the country.

If we truly love our nation, the intensity of public and government pressure should easily cleanse our nation of corruption cases in the vanguard institutions of Malaysia.

However, that is not the case, and therein lies the threat to our own sovereignty.

From king to commoner, we all have to take responsibility for this serious, critical, and vital failure.

When individuals holding positions of authority and their rank and file are found to be corrupt, it is treason. Nothing less.

How corrupt are our men and women in uniform? Have our politicians deliberately let their guard down, or have they chosen not to step on anyone's toes lest their political ambitions get derailed?

We must detest corruption and the corrupt mindsets and dereliction of duty within our defence and police.

We must also revolt against corruption and all forms of failures to arrest actions and inactions that threaten to derail our nation's strength, security, and sovereignty.

We have yet to hear from or be reassured convincingly by political leaders from both sides of the divide that they are coming together to purge the nation of these dangerous and undermining threats to our secure future.

They only blame each other for their failures to govern.

Corruption is treasonous

What were the superiors doing when those under their command were engaging in corrupt activities that are tantamount to clear treason?

All the drumbeats proclaiming progress, rising foreign investments, being showered with awards from foreign nations, and development promises - all these cannot protect the nation when corruption has infiltrated the police and defence institutions.

It is no more a question of an isolated incident or an individual criminal misdeed. It is treason against citizens, king, and country. Period.

Yet, there is no outcry but mere safe and politically correct statements ranging from "let investigators do their job" to warning citizens and netizens not to "speculate" and even closing with no further actions and transfers.
